5th October Red Bus Adult – Developing Language and Communication Skills

Become the adult who keeps children’s language journey moving all day.

This practical, inspiring training course shows early years staff how to become confident ‘Red Bus Adults’ during provision. Participants will learn how to use stories, play, everyday routines and carefully chosen vocabulary to create a language rich environment where children are encouraged to listen, speak, join in and grow in confidence.

•        Turn everyday provision into powerful language learning.
•        Use books of the week to choose meaningful target words.
•        Bring stories to life through story walks, movement and play.
•        Build vocabulary without worksheets, pressure or over complicated planning.
•       Support all children, including those with EAL or language delays, through repeated, natural exposure to words.
•       Give staff simple, memorable strategies they can use immediately.

By the end of the course, practitioners will know how to:

•         Select simple, high-impact vocabulary from a story.
•         Narrate play instead of relying on questioning.
•         Use repeated language naturally across the whole day.
•        Create engaging story walks using simple resources.
•         Follow children’s lead and build genuine conversations.
